 Mind-control and mind-reading, high-tech weapons

The Central Intelligence Agency's motto comes from the Bible: "And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free."

New York Times (2025-11-20): The C.I.A. had its own clandestine experimental mind-control program.  People warned of brain warfare...  one million ways this could be misused.

NPR (2019-9-9): The CIA's Secret Quest For Mind Control: mind control, if it can be mastered, is the key to global world power.

New York Times (2018-9-1) :  the American military itself sought to develop microwave arms that could invisibly beam painfully loud booms and even spoken words into people's heads. The aims were to disable attackers and wage psychological warfare.    In Albuquerque, N.M., Air Force scientists sought to beam comprehensible speech into the heads of adversaries. Their novel approach won a patent in 2002.

Russia, China and many European states are seen as having the know-how to make basic microwave weapons that can debilitate, sow noise or even kill. Only intelligence agencies know which nations actually possess and use such unfamiliar arms.

LA Times (2022-2-24): thousands of private citizens who call themselves “targeted individuals” experiencing perceived attacks by remote-controlled weapons....“I think we've only seen the tip of the iceberg,” ...“60 Minutes” testimony will encourage other victims to report.

BBC (2021-9-9): "The brain is being seen as the 21st Century battle-scape", this is a field with little transparency or rules.

Washington Examiner (2020-11-17):  a Beijing-based professor's assertion that Chinese forces “turned the mountain tops into a microwave oven”  “In 15 minutes, those occupying the hilltops all began to vomit,” Renmin University professor of international relations Jin Canrong said, per The Times of London. “They couldn't stand up, so they fled. This was how we retook the ground.”

Washington Examiner (2021-5-6): ...in the late 1990s with a high-powered microwave system weapon that may have the ability to weaken, intimidate, or kill an enemy over time and without leaving evidence.
Foreign Policy Research Institute (2024-4-1): The locations where Americans appear to have been targeted and harmed include Asian countries, China,  Australia,  Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Taiwan, and Uzbekistan etc.

New York Times:“In dictatorships, you often have factions that think nothing of going against the general policy if it suits their needs. "

High-Tech crimes   Taiwan is "illegal and unethical", low and mean !

Human rights records in Taiwan are not good since long time ago.

Differ from 228 Incident occurred about 70 yrs ago, today's persecutions could apply high tech. weapons (such as microwave weapons) ─ Probably since 1990s or bit earlier.   e.g.,

 media reports

human rights violations in Taiwan

Wall Street Journal (2013-9-30)  "Wiretapping, China Policy Fuel Taiwan Protesters' Discontent"  ─  Legislative Speaker Wang was captured in various phone recordings ...
The China Times (2007-10-18)  Taiwan's law-makers, no matter the ruling party's or the opposition's, believe they experienced being under monitored, the state apparatus is in the hands of the government, no one can go to the computer room to verify ... the investigation yielded no results.
NEWS Australia,  AFP , Thailand's Bangkok Post, Yahoo UK & Ireland, etc (Dec. 2011) An opposition party's vice presidential candidate, National Taiwan University professor Lin Ruey-Shiung, was subject to electromagnetic wave attacks
The Guardian, BBC, , Associated Press , Washington Post (January 3, 2012) reported another presidential candidate, DPP's Tsai I. W. has accused KMT's intelligence service of monitoring her activities; which conjures up memories of the state apparatus to persecute opponents.  (ps  中国新闻网, 2011-12-6:可能是指遭传闻中的“脑控武器”攻击)
Taiwan's United Daily (聯合報 社論, 2022-6-5) editorial  the DPP has repeatedly trampled on Taiwanese human rights, what they did was about the same as those of the authoritarian regimes they accused did. (民進黨全面執政後,一再留下踐踏人權的紀錄,手段較之他們指責的威權時期毫不遜色 )

Most of above were politicians fighting each other - However,  Doing this to civilians is more evil, because they are unarmed therefore hard to fight back,  some of them even don't know they're victims.

  Civilian victims

Global Times (2022-12-19): There are forces on the island (Taiwan) who are mentally controlling the Taiwan people...

The leader of KMT lawmakers ( KMT caucus convenor ) slammed at 2025-12-26 Lai and DPP for "engaging in terror rule"; he also criticized severely that the state apparatus has been monitoring Taiwanese civilians (2025). see pic. below:

pic.: The leader of KMT (main opposition party) lawmakers, Fu Kun-chi, denounced the state machine has been monitoring Taiwanese people. "Taiwan has become a police state !" (2025)

"Do to others as you would have others do unto you"

Some top politicians probably already experienced same thing before or just now, by their opponents, or foreign powers ?    But they do to their own people what they don't want done to themselves.

The DPP has taken the presidential office for consecutively 9 years (17 years in total since 2000), but they have not done anything major to solve these crimes.  They cover up the crimes, or they are committing the crimes.

Or, Is that you ?  Taiwan's state machine,  or Taiwan presidents ?  Lai Ching-te? Tsai Ing-wen? etc  (the prime suspects hide and run like rats  )

Taiwan now needs~

(1) some kind of external oversight, and to have different branches checking each other.

(2) to severely punish those criminals, so that mistakes won't repeat in the next 100 years.
Otherwise, Taiwan's image is still a criminal organization or illegal syndicate ?

First of all, we need to find out the truth.   Lai Ching-te needs to open related archives to victims or victims' families.

Take actions NOW ! before it is too late.  Courage is a must, because some of highest level politicians might play(ed) a role in some persecution cases.

pic.:  The ruling party (DPP) says persecutions occur everywhere, and any time !!

president's promise

Taiwan's president Lai Ching-te said at 2024-4-6 that he will politically rehabilitate all victims being persecuted,  experiencing physical or mental pains.  They will receive apologies from the nation. ( 要讓受苦、受迫害的人們得到平反,得到國家的道歉並恢復名譽 ) The “first 100 days(Brookings) concept remains most prominent in the US, other democracies like Taiwan have adopted it.  It has been 100 days since Lai's taking office at May 20, 2024, he has not opened political archives concerning persecution cases such as electromagnetic wave attacks or mind-control  occurred in Taiwan...

New York Times (2018-9-3) says that basic microwave weapons might accomplish more nuanced aims such as beaming spoken words into people's heads.    ──   However, this (creepy Halloween voice to your head,  like an invisible illegal intruders reside in your head ) had already become a reality at least 30-40 years ago.
Global Times (2022-3-15)  : A victim believes mind control experiments are still ongoing, albeit not quite as primitive as those performed in the 1950s.
Global Times (2022-12-19) : There are forces on the island (Taiwan) who are mentally controlling the Taiwan people...

Mind-control issues coming to light ?

Is the US an accomplice ?

BBC, 2021-9-9: The brain is being seen as the 21st Century battle-scape.   Reports say from the 1990s, the US Air Force had a project codenamed "Hello" to see if microwaves could create disturbing sounds in people's heads, one called "Goodbye" to test their use for crowd control.

New York Times, 2018-9-1 (brief): To turn microwave radiation into covert weapons of mind control...    microwaves can trick the brain into perceiving what seem to be ordinary sounds.  The dimensions of the human head, scientists say, make it a fairly good antenna for picking up microwave signals.  Advanced powers, experts say, might accomplish more nuanced aims such as beaming spoken words into people's heads.

From reports above, it's within reason to say that Taiwan's mental-control weapons were imported from the US.   However, it's unknown whether or not the US gave their official permission for Taiwan's secret police to use any of those high-tech weapons on Taiwanese people.

CarnegieEndowment.org (2021-05-12) :  a growing number of voters support initiatives to restrict U.S. aid to Israel due to its human rights violations...   the administration should enforce existing laws that prohibit the use of U.S. security assistance for illegitimate purposes.   All countries receiving U.S. aid must meet human rights standards, and countries violating these standards are liable to be sanctioned and ineligible for U.S. funding.   The United States does have obligations under both federal and international law to ensure that it is not furthering human rights abuses.

If not restricting and stopping Taiwan's human rights abuses by using American high-tech weapons,  the US is an accomplice, most likely.

  Is Taiwan prime criminal ?

The Taiwanese government has never opened high-tech mind control issue to the public.
The government refuses to open

main purpose

Ali Muhammad ( US president Trump praised Ali "great", Obama praised him as "a man who spoke out when others wouldn't ... fought for what was right"  ) chose not to shoot those Vietnamese who never lynched him, and never called his name, never put dogs on him, and never rape, kill his relatives ...

Please clarify if  I am the subject of lynch and/or old-low systematic mistreats by Taiwan. ( ps: many letters and messages were already sent for clarification for years but have no clear response till now)  Taiwan repression, oppression

 If the answer is Yes,

Taiwan falls behind near half of the world, and might be worse if applying high tech. torture/cruelty, etc.  ( Amnesty Int'l report, "over half the world's government continue to use torture against their own citizens" /  "Closet Land", USA, 1991
Taiwan is far behind and keeps stalling over legislating a new law against torture and other cruelties, which was conclusively advised by international review panel ( Philip Alston, law professor at New York University; Eibe Riedel, former member of the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights; Jerome Cohen, law professor at New York University; and Nisuke Ando, professor emeritus at Kyoto University, etc. )  (ref. to Apple Daily, headline, 12-9-2017)  )

Taiwan should immediately punish the prime criminals !  to assure no more political lynch or persecution in Taiwan in the following years.

Taiwan should admit guilty, dirty operations as below

hypothetically, if any ) :

 1>  attacks by high-tech. lynch

Hacking, Satan's whisper, electronic harassingelectromagnetic wave attacks, etc, all these can be done secretly, painlessly, unawarely ( nothing people would normally notice ).  Were those operations done by Taiwan with dark-power's permission & authority? Or it's an invasion or convulsion ?

 2>  attacks by oldest & lowest cheap-shots

Cheap-labor crimes, systematic singling out , hassling, staging a political shaming show , impartiality in courthousemurdering image (or health ?) ...and certainly, giving the victim a name and hang it.  Without persecution's and military necessities, most likely they did it under table by under hands for dirty political purpose.  And perhaps making new mistakes to cover old mistakes?!

In the past 20++ years ...

My international posts, like <International Journal of Comic arts>  sent by American professor,  and press card, <FECO News> from leader of Federation European Cartoonists Organisations were missing for a number of times.   (PS: Taiwan post-office representative expressed they were not the only institution that can touch the post.)

Telephone surveillance ―   bad connections (lots of static added) on the line many times, in both domestic and international phones.   The police headquarter replied that a formal official document should be informed before phone tapping, in accordance with the law (ps1).

Sneaky, low-level cheap-labor crimes, e.g., scratching my car, unlocking my car many times,  intruding my house while no on at home,  making accidents...

Poisoning (casting aspersions on my character "潑髒水") me or/and spreading 'war-time' propaganda / political messages about me with probably some excuses, e.g., made a matter of national/social security similar to the film <No Way Out> or ....  ( the truth is contrary to their excuse)

more serious crimes ... e.g., oil on the floor (gate of FECO Taiwan branch) to intentionally murder old people (around eve of Chinese new year '16/'17 and many more).

persecution against world value

US President Joe Biden first address to Congress  (April 2021): No responsible American president can remain silent when basic human rights are violated

The Hill, 2021-3-28:  We (the US) will be guilty of a similar crime against humanity if we stand by and watch slavery or murder occurs to Taiwanese...
Similarly, Taiwan will be guilty of a similar crime against humanity if the government stand by and watch persecutions occur to Taiwanese everywhere !
Worse than that, Taiwan is suspected to be the criminals/victimizers.

Human rights persecution and infringement by officials in power are anywhere and anytime in Taiwan. (according to Transitional justice Committee, Dec.  2020)

Secretary Antony J. Blinken Virtual Remarks at the UN Security Council Open Debate, May 7, 2021: The Universal Declaration of Human Rights begins with the word “universal” because our nations agreed there are certain rights to which every person, everywhere, is entitled kh.usembassy.gov/secretary-antony-j-blinken-virtual-remarks-at-the-un-security-council-open-debate-on-multilateralism/

★  Why Taiwan should acknowledge mistakes ( hypothetically, if any)

let's crack this mysterious case !

Taiwan torture

dirty attacks by  low-old or/and high-tech.

 ●   US president Obama stated ( Dec. 2014 ) "We make mistakes, we admit them", because this "will make sure it does not occur again".    Should learn this.

 ●  Even 'terror' groups or ISIS claimed or proclaimed responsibility for their attacks soon after their actions, The suspects are lousier if dodging admitting whatever done.

 ●  I  organized on my own dime (any officials willing to?) a world No.1 cartoon-arts expo. , and wrote No.1-ranking critiques to pressure Taiwan for about 20 years.  No matter who the victimizer is, running away is a chicken way, using new mistakes to cover old mistakes is evil way.

 ● The int'l visiting review panel urged (March 1, 2013) more transparency  in Taiwanese government decision making on human rights and opening to the public all the facts how Taiwanese human rights were damaged. (PS: panel consists international experts, e.g., Philip Alston, law professor at New York University; Eibe Riedel, former member of the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights; Jerome Cohen, law professor at New York University; and Nisuke Ando, professor emeritus at Kyoto University, etc. )

 ●  Internal affairs, how many crimes committed in your name?  Heinous deeds broke the law, Constitution, and universal values in human rights (e.g., Nuremberg Code, Swiss Geneva Conventions(1949),  French Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen (since 1789), UK The Great Charter, US Bill of Rights, etc),  certainly, it's not just an internal affair.

 ●  Staging a fake showbiz, instead of putting efforts on people most and really need ps4 - food safety (TW blind to it for 40 years), democracy, economy, pollution, justice (ps3 ), corruption (ref. to US Country Report on Human Rights, 2015-2020,), horror transportation, China issue, etc?   Facts proved old low show persecuting a tiny little innocent ant is useless to warn numerous huge dinosaurs.

 ●  In the past, Taiwan’s government was a master in the art of Obscurantism .  Since TIME (June 2015, cover page) described Taiwan as “the only Chinese democracy”, Taiwan should contrast communist China (usually applying party-discipline and opaque procedures) and let it clear that Taiwan has not persecuted any of its own citizen (ps2).  It is even more evil if using excuses to save itself.

 ● This mind reading/control tech. was not invented for me, Taiwanese high officials may be victims, already or later,  unless they're betrayers or flunkies or useless to 'them' or ... , Most victims normally notice nothing, because the darkness suppose prefer a "naked mind".    Taiwanese should not sit idle and await me to fight for them.

 ●  Republic of China - Taiwan's head Ma (maybe he’s more honest than previous presidents who denied having developed nuclear weapons) officially pronounced  (e.g., in FTV, 1/10/2011) that "We have not reached up that territory/level (mind-reading) yet", which implies naked invasions and robberies in broad daylight have been done constantly by international forces ? or Taiwan gave them permit?...  Taiwan needs to find out who is/are the power in the shadow2, instead of burying their heads into the sands about what is happening. ps: Even former president Jiang Kai-shek(蔣介石) and communists leader Mao Zedong (毛澤東) in 1950 were object to and resisted any invasion in any form.

Admitting and correcting mistakes now, Taiwan may be ranked in latter part of all nations in the world, but will be back to the right position truly deserved, this assures no one will be mistreated in the next 50-100 years.   Are we Taiwanese fragile people ?

Probably like Euro. leaders, I don't have irrefutable proofs or confirmation on scientific attacks (there's no air-raid warnings), but smart people certainly believe me by reasoning.  Below is an analysis, not speculation.

†  best reporter reaches the final-line first

  1.  If I have not experienced them, how can I know those  “stunts” which Nobel Peace Prize candidate, Snowden, has not surfaced yet?     CIA's reports in 2014 stated their torture methods include constant noise or giving no sleeps for 180 hours, however, new killing tech. can do it as well.  Everyone silenced this.   New York Times (7-27-2016) reported using science to meddle with human abilities to think "are not even close to ready now" But based on my experience, it's been working for years.

  2. The head of Taiwan (Republic of China former president) Ma achieved some clarity (e.g., in FTV, 1/10/2011) that "We have not reached that territory/level ("境界" , mind reading) yet".   He didn't talk about other far more advanced torture techs. and  jedi-mind-tricks mentioned in this web-site.

3 This website was opened earlier than CIA's StarGate reports - which is still not clear yet till now.

◆  4.   I, an international cartoon arts awards-winning artist and a reporter (press card from Euro.) for 10+ years.

◆  5.   You can not trust Taiwan's politicians.  The Liberty Times, editorial (7-21-2020) reports only 2.3% Taiwanese politicians are trustworthy and have professional ethics, according to a survey half year ago  . Taiwan's notorious for lying, e.g., Washington Post 7-22-2020: In January 2019, Chinese president Xi offered an ultimatum to Taiwan to come to the table for unification talks or face annexation by force.  Taiwan government has been lips-tight to its own people about the ultimatum ― Taiwanese have no right to know a matter of life and death?

◆  6. In the past years I sent many letters and emails for clarification, e.g., Taiwan's FBI  (Investigation Bureau, Ministry of Justice)  gave no clear answer to a simple question.  The court said obviously nothing occurred.    Now is comparatively better time to get this done.

nNational Human Rights Commission implemented on May 1, 2020, or

njustsecurity.org, Focus Taiwan, Taipei Times, etc, 2022-5-13:  an international human rights experts panel conducted a five-day review from May 9-13 in Taipei of the country's implementation of two United Nations' human rights-related covenants, namely the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR).
The international human rights panel's report (2022)  highlighted the absence of legislation to curb torture and discrimination in Taiwan.   “The information provided by the government clearly shows that there are many allegations of torture against law enforcement officials in Taiwan,” the report said those cases only led to disciplinary action instead of criminal prosecution.  The nation has yet to make incorporate torture — the crime of inflicting severe mental or physical pain or suffering on a powerless person for a particular purpose as defined in international law — into its Criminal Code;  The Concluding Observations and Recommendations of the international review committee underlined the importance of Taiwan completing its process of incorporating key norms into its domestic law, by adding the three conventions – the Convention Against Torture, the Convention on Enforced Disappearances, etc. The committee also reiterated the need to expicitly prohibit torture in Taiwan’s criminal code

nSome years ago, another international review panel ( Philip Alston, law professor at New York University; Eibe Riedel, former member of the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights; Jerome Cohen, law professor at New York University; and Nisuke Ando, professor emeritus at Kyoto University, etc. )  conclusively advised Taiwan legislating a new law against torture and other cruelties.
Taiwan just

What Taiwan's president did so far ...

According to Taipei Times (2025-3-1, 2-28), President William Lai gives a speech at the 78th anniversary of the 228 Incident (on Feb. 27, 1947), in which countless innocent people were suffered.  As for the Lin family murder case on Feb. 28, 1980, rcent studies and examinations showed that the then-government must have been involved in the murders and that intelligence agencies did interfere with the investigation into the case by damaging critical evidence.

The Liberty Times (2025-3-11, 自由時報) says Lai stressed that the government will accelerate the opening of political archives, investigate the truth, and avoid the state machine from hurting people again...

But, the DPP's presidents only focus on those persecutions 50 ~ 80 years ago. The perpetrators and victimizers most likely died already, therefore it's difficult to find out any hard evidences for their crimes.
The most important issue is those persecutions in recent 40 years.  The official website of the ruling party (pic. below) says persecutions by the power occur everywhere in the past, now, and very likely in the future.

Differ from 228 Incident, today's persecutions apply high tech. (such as microwave weapons).   click to see difference between Green Terror and White Terror (Chinese version)
|
Amnesty International org. (2025-2-23) also calls for robust protection of human rights in the digital age.

The DPP has taken the presidential office for consecutively 9 years (17 years in total since 2000) but has done nothing; They have been inactive to those crimes.

Take actions NOW ! before it is too late - perpetrators and victimizers might die or bury the truth anytime.  Courage is a must, because some of highest level politicians might play(ed) a role in some persecution cases.

It has been 100 days since Lai's taking office at May 20, 2024, he has not opened political archives concerning persecution cases such as electromagnetic wave attacks (NEWS Australia,  AFP , Thailand's Bangkok Post, Yahoo UK & Ireland, etc) or mind-control (Global Times: mentally-control) occurred in Taiwan which were reported by international media already, not to mention those unknown to foreign countries.  Perhaps many victims even don't know they were victims.

from the perspective of Chiang Kai-Shek, this was an insurrection. And these had been common in mainland China under the [Republic of China] dating back for decades…so it was quite typical to dispatch the military and put down what they perceived to be a rebellion. persecutions in today's Taiwan

Taiwan politicians in power don't have the balls to fight China,
but, evil politicians are not too chicken to persecute Taiwan's nationals

Washington Examiner (2023-6-1): even the more hawkish elements of the Taiwanese political establishment are unwilling to take truly bold action (about its own defense.) At just 2.4% of its GDP, for example, Taiwan's defense spending is, put simply, a total joke.
New York Times (2022-5-24): First, Taiwan's defense budget, in relation both to its robust economy and the military threat it faces, remains scandalously low
Washington Examiner (2023-5-20): Taiwan... In contrast, Ukraine has shown not just the resolve to fight against overwhelming odds, but the spirit to win.

◆  Breaking Defense, 2022-3-11 :  Until recently, President Tsai has appeared reluctant to discuss how Taiwanese citizens can help defend their country.
◆  Financial Times (UK), 2021-9-15 : Washington keeps scolding Taipei over its supposed lack of preparation against an ever mightier Beijing.

persecutions in Taiwan

Japan Times (2022-4-22),  the Diplomat (2023-5-12) criticized Taiwan  ──  "All too often, Taiwan looks the other way as its formal partners commit human rights abuses".

Such as
Taiwan president Tsai Ing-wen called Somaliland “like-minded partner who share the values of democracy and freedom”.  But in Somaliland, hundreds have died in what has become a civil war, over 100,000 refugees fled, freedom of the press is under threat.
Nicaragua had committed crimes against humanity, Taiwan donated millions of U.S. dollars to a Nicaragua's police official
Reuters (2021-2-8): The US is investigating Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez  ; However, Tsai Ing-wen met him in Presidential Office in Nov. 2021.
Taiwan president Tsai Ing-wen described her visit to Guatemala as necessary to “stand firm in defense of freedom and democracy”. However, the international community has repeatedly expressed concern about Guatemala's lack of democracy, and the US criticized the deterioration of the rule of law and the persecution of journalists.
and so on

In a so-called democratic Taiwan,
All too often, Taiwan presidents look the other way as its state machine or/and  some "dark power" commit human rights abuses;
or it might be worse
── some president(s) gave order or gave approval to persecutions ...

privacy in Taiwan

the Universal Declaration of Human Rights includes an express right to privacy. ── No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks.

The US Supreme Court has recognized the right to privacy as a fundamental right.

Justice Brandeis:  “the right to be let alone [is] the most comprehensive of rights, and the right most valued by civilized men.” ArticleThe Right to Privacy defines privacy as the “right of the individual to be let alone".

nApple Daily  (蘋果日報, 2014-8-18) editorialPrivacy is the fundamental of democracy, freedom and human rights; We urge to face the issue of Taiwanese people being wiretapped and monitored. (brief)
nThe China Times
(中國時報, 2007-10-18) Taiwan has become a "police state",  the state machine is controlled by the government, nobody can check if he is a victim, investigations for wiretapping always leave unresolved. (brief)
nUnited Daily group  (民生報, 1995-7-17): wiretapping are everywhere, the rights of privacy are repeatedly offended  (everyone - you and me could be transparent victims)

former presidential candidate Ko  and his supports accused a political vendetta

Washington Post, 2025-1-17 With Ko's indictment, the KMT and TPP are accusing Lai of abusing his powers to politically influence the judiciary.  Opposition supporters have been holding large-scale demonstrations in recent weeks.  Ko denies the charges, which his supporters say are politically motivated. “It's political persecution",  "an end to “DPP tyranny”.
In last year's presidential election, Ko with his party's strong performance key to why Lai's ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) lost its legislative majority.

New York Times,   2024-12-26 Ko has denied the charges and said that he was the victim of a political vendetta mounted by Mr. Lai's government...thousands of supporters  gathered in protests, arguing that the allegations were  flimsy and politically motivated, and that seemingly corrupt politicians from Mr. Lai's DPParty had been spared investigations.    “What's important to keep in mind is that the sort of political force that he awakened in Taiwan is not going to go away,” said  Lev Nachman, a political scientist at NCCU.   nytimes.com/2024/12/26/world/asia/taiwan-presidential-candidate-indicted.html
Bloomberg,   2024-12-26 The Taiwan People's Party (founded by Ko) denounced the indictment in a press briefing : “Today, Taiwan is experiencing judicial injustice, with politics and state machinery being used to persecute political opponents,” The indictment “lacks financial evidence and concrete proof, relying solely on pieced-together claims to destroy political adversaries.”
BBC,   2024-12-26 A dark horse in presidential election, Ko won votes not far behind ruling party candidate Lai Ching-te's 40% His sizable showing pointed to voters' demand for a more pluralistic political landscape beyond the two main parties.   Ko was expected to seek the presidency again in 2028.    His allies and supporters accused the DPP of using the charges to suppress its opponents.

Ko Wei-je, chair & founder of TPP, the third largest party, said he experienced abuses, etc

War On The Rocks (2024-9-20):  The arrest and detention of Taiwan People's Party chairman and former Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je on corruption charges... have Lai's critics protesting that he is using the judiciary to persecute rivals.  Washington observers might worry that Lai is undermining the independence of the judicial system...

The Diplomat, 2024-9-11:Both Ko and the TPP claim the case against him is a political witchhunt on the part of the DPP

United Daily (Taiwan, 2024-9-13): Taiwan's top professor says that the way media report Ko is like  "Shame parades through the streets",  dusty old political theatrics that communist Chinese Red Guards used during the Cultural Revolution, 1966 ~  (變成對待政敵的紅衛兵式的鬥爭,如同遊街公審)

Asia Nikkei (Japan), 2024-9-
11: China weighed in on the Ko Wei-je drama, and has accused Taiwan's president Lai Ching-te of persecuting Beijing-leaning rivals, since Lai Ching-te admin came to power, it has repeatedly manipulated judicial and administrative means, used public weapons for private purposes, opposed party members and dissenters, and created "green terror" on the island.

Asia Nikkei (Japan), 2024-9-5:Taiwan's Ko Wen-je accuses government of witch hunt ... and launched broadsides against the legal system and the press, accusing them of doing the bidding of President Lai Ching-te's Democratic Progressive Party..."the judiciary and the media being the government's political tools" ( the KMT's most powerful lawmaker, that most legal professionals only listen to the DPP)

The Diplomat, 2024-9-3: The TPP increasingly began leaning into the narrative that Ko's arrest was a form of political persecution...

Council on Foreign Relations, 2024-9-3: Ko Wen-je──accuses the government of attempting to “suppress” its opponents and the press and judiciary of “being the government's political tools.”

Mainichi (Japan), 2024-8-31: Authorities arrested TPP founder and chairman Ko Wen-je around 2 a.m.   Ko said it is the first time in Taiwan's history that the home and office of a major opposition party leader, as well as a party headquarters, have been searched. He called for authorities to explain what evidence they have to take such action. The TPP holds the balance of power in Taiwan's parliament with both the ruling Democratic Progressive Party and the main opposition Nationalist Party failing to secure a majority.   mainichi.jp/english/articles/20240831/p2g/00m/0in/027000c    msn.com/en-us/news/world/ko-wen-je-released-as-corruption-probe-continues-taiwanplus-news/vi-AA1pQxJ5?ocid=BingNewsVerp  TaiwanPlus video

After being released by the court at 2024-9-2 , Ko Wen-je told Taiwan's media that he experienced "extreme oppression, mistreatment and abuses" (「極盡壓迫跟凌虐」) by prosecutors during two days' detention in graft probe.

Financial Times (UK), 2024-9-6: Prosecutors' swift moves against Cheng (former premier 鄭文燦) and Ko Wen-je (Chairman of TPP) have prompted Taiwanese commentators to question whether Lai was “cleaning house” of political rivals or pushing an anti-corruption crackdown to win back public support (divert attention from the current chaos in domestic politics.). an official at the Judicial Yuan said investigators typically sounded out their superiors before proceeding with big cases, especially those involving vested interests or politicians. “In a case like this, a signal would have been given from above before they go and detain him" .ft.com/content/65c8f0f5-de31-4f10-89cb-b2f5acfddc2b

(Council on Foreign relations, 2024-9-5: Ko was widely seen as having outperformed expectations and as someone who would again run for president. Independent UK, 2024-7-12: Mr Cheng was seen as a potential presidential contender )

To obtain confession by detention

United Daily (2024-9-13): While supporting former president Chen Shui-bian a few years ago, Lai Ching-te said that obtaining confessions by detention is human rights abuses and violating "procedural justice"; but now different standard is applied for Ko Wen-je?

(賴清德總統以前聲援前總統陳水扁時曾說押人取供違反程序正義、踐踏人權,如今同一套標準,怎對柯文哲不一樣?)
The purpose of detention is to preserve evidence, not to detain people to obtain confessions.

Asia Nikkei (Japan, 2024-9-5): Ko said his meals consisted of two pieces of bread and a drink. "For three days, I had to sleep on the floor, and there was no shower or bed available. The lights were never turned off so the detainee will quickly lose the sense of time," he said. "Those who haven't been convicted, and are merely in remand, should not be treated in such a manner. This is inconsistent with human rights."

Nuremberg Code :  a set of research ethics principles for human experimentation set as a result of the subsequent Nuremberg trials at the end of the Second World War

  1.       Required is the voluntary, well-informed, understanding consent of the human subject in a full legal capacity.
  2.       The experiment should aim at positive results for society that cannot be procured in some other way.
  3.        It should be based on previous knowledge (like, an expectation derived from animal experiments) that justifies the experiment.
  4.        The experiment should be set up in a way that avoids unnecessary physical and mental suffering and injuries.
  5.        It should not be conducted when there is any reason to believe that it implies a risk of death or disabling injury.
  6.        The risks of the experiment should be in proportion to (that is, not exceed) the expected humanitarian benefits.
  7.        Preparations and facilities must be provided that adequately protect the subjects against the experiment’s risks.
  8.        The staff who conduct or take part in the experiment must be fully trained and scientifically qualified.
  9.        The human subjects must be free to immediately quit the experiment at any point when they feel physically or mentally unable to go on.
  10.         Likewise, the medical staff must stop the experiment at any point when they observe that continuation would be dangerous.
